Congratulations Mark: RTS Young Technologist of the Year 2019
The team are thrilled to announce that 2015 BSc (Hons) Media Technology graduate, Mark Couto has been named Young Technologist of the Year (Thames Valley) 2019 by the Royal Television Society.
Mark was announced as the winner at the RTS Thames Valley’s Winter Ball held in December at the De Vere Wokefield Estate Hotel. Since graduating from Solent, Mark has been working for Techex as a broadcast engineer and then technical consultant. He was described by judges as having “a thirst for learning and an amazing enthusiasm for getting to grips with modern technology”.
The award criteria sought individuals who demonstrated a significant contribution to a project that included attributes such as uniqueness of the technology or process developed, research procedure and conclusions drawn, as well as its contribution to the broadcast and media industries.
Media technology graduates have done well recently with 2013 BSc (Hons) Live and Studio Sound graduate Kath Gray winning Young Technologist of the Year in 2017 and 2018 BSc (Hons) Broadcast Systems Engineering graduate Alex Snell winning the Coffey Award for Excellence in 2018.
Mark says he wouldn’t be in the job he is in today without the support offered by Solent. During his studies an opportunity came up for an internship with Techex, which he applied for, completed and returned upon graduation. During his studies he consistently showed a high level of professionalism as well as a thirst for knowledge and the course team are extremely proud of his achievements since. Course Leader Polly Hickling commented “Mark really deserves this recognition of his hard work and we are sure he is going to continue to go on to do great things."
