Live Events Society supports Solent Music Awards
On Tuesday 15 May, the Live Events Society (LES) supported the Solent Music Awards 2018. Providing sound, lights and video for 15 bands was a tough task but was successfully completed by a small team over the course of three days. A full PA system featuring main stacks, front fills and delays was used with a Midas M32 at Front of House and a Soundcraft SI Impact for monitor mixes. Three manned system cameras and a remote PTZ (Pan, Tilt and Zoom) camera were vision mixed for the IMAG screen. This was all accompanied by a 10m x 5m x 3.5m Trilight truss structure featuring an array of LED intelligent fixtures. The crew had an added challenge as they were all placed in positions that were not as well known to them, allowing them to further broaden their industry skills.
Congratulations to former LES President and third year BSc (Hons) Audio Engineering student Charlie Creese, who was presented with the Contribution to Music Events award at the ceremony.
The LES is an extremely active student society that started within the Media Technology Programme but has since grown to include enthusiasts from across the University. The students provide professional-grade technical services for live events around the Southampton region including conferences, theatrical shows and music performances. Find out more.
Thanks to current President and first year BSc (Hons) Live Sound Technology student Ehlana Godfrey for her insights and photographs as well as YSVisuals for the banner and thumbnail images.
