Students attend the International Broadcasting Convention
Last month third year students Marco Campagnuola and Nashpal Sehmi were hosted at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam by industry body the International Association of Broadcast Manufacturers (IABM).
The IABM provide two places at IBC to Media Technology students each year as part of our relationship as their Higher Education partner for the UK. Students also attended from partner Universities in Canada, USA, Germany Russia and France. Marco and Nashpal were awarded the opportunity after submitting a report on media technologies and presenting to a panel from the IABM.
The students had full access to the exhibition and conference sessions and were able to find out about cutting edge technologies as well as the latest standards and practices. Marco reports “The use of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies in live & studio conditions was without a doubt my favourite. The headset technologies proposed elements of 360 Audio Plugins (Facebook 360. Avid, G’Audio Lab, B<>COM…) and immersive experiences – pushing towards all kinds of content including sports, movies and medicine.”
The IBC is made up of 15 large exhibition halls and several auditoria including a temporary state-of-the-art cinema. The majority of broadcast manufactures from across the globe are represented and conference sessions are facilitated by leading figures. The opportunity provides excellent inspiration for final year projects as well as context for the students’ formal studies. In addition the students are able to network with a huge variety of industry professionals through formal seminars and informal events.
In addition to the two students that attended the conference with the IABM, several other Media Technology students were working there as technical support for the conference and IBC News. Read more about our work at IBC with Shooting Partners via the link on the blog homepage.
