Students rock production planning

Sixteen final year students from the programme were put through their paces this week at the O2 Guildhall Southampton as they prepared a hypothetical production plan for Mastodon. The students are all studying Event Management as part of either BSc (Hons) Live Sound Technology or BSc (Hons) Television Production Technology and the task formed part of their final assessment. Their production plans may have been hypothetical but they were created onsite with input from the venue staff and promoters.

The task was based on the scenario that the plans had to be made at the last minute within the real event details and constraints. Lecturer Neil Brooming commented on the value of using real world scenarios to provide realistic learning opportunities in a high pressured but reasonably low-risk environment. The students demonstrated great capability and their professionalism seemed to impress Live Nation Area Manager Mandy as she very kindly gave the students guest list tickets to the Mastodon concert so that they could see the actual production in action.
