In The Veil - a Short Film by Solent Students
When the world moves on without you, it’s difficult to sit back and watch those most important to you seemingly forget you were once their everything. Stuck “In The Veil” between life and death, Caleb watches Sophie move on and is unable to do anything about it.
If one things for certain in this world, it’s that it doesn’t last forever. At one point we, and the people we hold closest to us no longer exist on this planet. Losing a loved one is never easy, especially when it comes out of nowhere – but what do you do once they’re gone? Is it better to mourn them and move on, or should we never move on? And being the lost one is just as difficult, especially when you have to watch life continue without you around. Do you want people to forget you and move on? Letting go is not easy for both.
This short film created by second year students Mariana Piteira, Lisandra Gouveia, Kelsi Laird and Luke Simcock, allows us to see the sorrow of both alive and deceased. Caleb, played by Adrian Perez, is unaware of his departure from this world until he runs into an old friend, allowing his memories to flush back. With a quick visit to the love of his life, he’s distraught at what he finds – Sophie, played by Mazzy Westwood, in the company of another man. Upset with his discovery, Caleb can’t bear to watch and tries to move on with his ‘life’ but he is trapped. Can Caleb figure out what he needs to do in order to truly move on?
Watch as Caleb and Sophie figure out what it is they need to move on.
