Solent Media takeover for World Music Village at Victorious Festival 2022

Last summer a group of media students spent three days at Victorious music festival, in Portsmouth, covering the World Music Village. Just one of many stages at Victorious the World Music Village is put together by the charity Arms Around the Child with the express aim of generating support for their work in India and Ghana where they fund a number of orphanages.

During the three days of the festival, the students covered all the media needs of the World Music Village, including live social media, video coverage and photography. After the event, they then delivered a series of short promotional videos for the World Music Village that will help promote fundraising for the charity. You can see from the video that not only was it a lot of fun, but it also consolidated the skills the students develop in their course at Solent University. The media production course focuses explicitly on social media producing so being able to get real-world work experience for a real client with real business needs is a real benefit to the students.

This is the fifth time students from Solent University have covered media for the World Music Village and we hope to be doing so again in 2023. It’s a unique opportunity for the students and it also has a very real social impact as the media created supports the work of the charity behind the World Music Village. We very much look forward to our next visit to Portsmouth in August 2023.

I see how their skills dramatically improve over the weekend. Some students join the team with very little experience but finish the festival with new confidence, great material for their portfolio, and friends for life.”
