Thoughts of the Unknown by Greta Gasser

4 February 2022

During Lockdown, Greta Gasser asked herself, "can you remember what it felt like to be out in a packed bar with buzzing sounds all around you?" She used to enjoy tie-up conversations, people laughing out loud, and the music's rhythm releasing endorphins in your body. It made her feel euphoric, inclusive, and adored. However, rapidly it put her feelings and desires on hold. The lives that we planned ended up taking the unexpected route. This virus flowing around the atmosphere has dictated a new perspective on how we live our lives. Everyone has become more self-conscience about what is going into their body. Health has become the main priority in our society. The World Health Organisation is being listened to by billions of people worldwide, and it's difficult to ignore them.

This significant societal shift has made Greta 'Thoughts of the Unknown.' So, this is where she created a graphic photography series, representing the changes and sacrifices we had to make in our daily lives to protect our communities from the coronavirus that had spread worldwide. Quarantine has left an imprint in all our lives. As a result, people are pressured to change how we approach things in our lives. Some people were able to take a step back and reflect on their lives. For others, it was a harrowing confrontation with oneself. As our daily habits changed, Greta suggests that "[it] may have gotten a little weird." Therefore, she decided to express her feelings through her knowledge of photography and crafted images that could communicate to us with little words.

Nevertheless, she cares about her audience. The name of each photograph was inspired by common frustrations and perceptions by people around her. In a way, despite how her isolation inspired her to create something creative. Creatively, she still connects with the audience through her images, and one of them could be you.
