How to do indie rock right – The Mallees
Forming in 2023 the upcoming alternative indie band from Portsmouth, The Mallees aim to impact the south coasts indie rock scene by bringing their distinctive sound to music admirers everywhere. With 3 singles they have achieved great success, especially when having their first debut single “losing our minds” reaching number 1 on both express FM local music chart and voice FM Southcoast music charts after being featured on BBC introducing. They take inspiration from a range of diverse bands like The Strokes, Joy Division and even Metallica.

After signing up to BandMix, The Mallees completed their band line up when bassist Shay St Leger later joined the app alongside Drummer Ibi Bukhari, backing vocalist/guitarist Jake Jones and lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Jonah Keown-Halley.
If you’re into the live music scene, The Mallees will always be playing live near you, having gigged around the southcoast, they are expanding out to venues in Winchester and even London. If you thought it couldn’t get any better, The Mallees are returning with a new track called “puppet” (instagram teaser reel) releasing on the 27th of October 2023. This track takes on heavier music characteristics and features a rocking guitar solo and powerful vocals.
