MSc Computer Engineering
Bring your problem-solving skills to both existing and emerging technologies on this highly practical, industry-led conversion course, ideal for students from non-computing backgrounds.
Data analysis is in high demand, with organisations increasingly requiring skilled staff to collect, analyse and interpret their data. The primary role of a data analyst is to collect, organise and study data to provide business insight. Analysts are typically involved with managing, cleansing, abstracting and aggregating data, and conducting a range of analytical studies on that data.
The worldwide growth in the collection of data and subsequent supply of information from this data has been phenomenal. Many organisations are experiencing a shortage of the skills required to perform this analysis. This level 4 course is intended to equip you with the problem-solving skills and technical knowledge required for a career in this area.
You will explore a broad range of areas, such as problem solving, statistics, programming and systems analysis as well as databases and data analysis, analytics as well as aspects of data science allowing you to develop your professional knowledge in your area of work.
Data analysts tend to be involved in collecting, organising and analysing data to provide business insight and information for business advantage.
Throughout your studies you will have the opportunity to use our modern ICT labs featuring a full range of technology and software packages.
Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will achieve an HNC Data Analyst qualification. This apprenticeship is also recognised for entry onto the Register of IT Technicians, confirming SFIA Level 3 professional competence - those completing the apprenticeship are eligible to apply for registration.
We currently offer the data analyst pathway aligned to the Institute for Apprenticeships standard.
This course is part of the South Coast Institute of Technology, a collaboration of further education colleges and universities offering courses that can lead to a wide range of exciting and dynamic career pathways, boosting employability, filling skills gaps, and supporting the economic growth of the South Coast.

An apprenticeship offers a unique blend of work experience and academic study. Candidates on an apprenticeship will work a paid job while simultaneously working towards a relevant qualification in their chosen field.
Apprentices are employees with a contract of employment that must cover the duration of the programme being studied. Apprentices have guaranteed time from their employer to complete their studies, at a minimum of six hours a week, known as off-the-job training hours. The University will provide each apprentice with a tracker to ensure these off the job hours are logged to demonstrate compliance with this funding rule.
Solent offers a diverse range of higher and degree apprenticeships, some of which will include an additional qualification that will be studied within the Apprenticeship Standard, eg: HNC, BA or BSc.
Our apprenticeships give employees the opportunity to upskill in their chosen field or retrain for a new career while working.
Employers will see an increase in knowledge and skills, improved productivity, and a boost in the expertise of the workforce.
