Re:So @ SOOK workshop - Introduction to writing poetry

Solent's Re:So (The Solent Retail Initiative) will be taking over the SOOK pop-up shop in Southampton's Westquay Shopping Centre from Thursday 26 to Monday 30 October 2023. As well as selling designed and curated products, students and graduates will be offering a programme of free workshops in the store ranging from Fashion to Music to Creative Writing... and more! Booking is free, but spaces for each workshop are limited so be quick.

About the workshop

If you're interested in writing poetry or intimidated to start, then this is a workshop for you. It will ensure that you've got the tools you need to start understanding poetry and getting to grips with the ideas of rhyme, rhythm, metre, and touch on some elements of form. As well as this, it gives you some basic building blocks to start understanding where you can get inspiration to write. by the end you'll have at least one finished piece of poetry to do as with you please!

What will participants do/gain?

People who attend this workshop will gain the ability to start writing their own poetry and understand the different forms and ways people can get inspired to write it. They'll understand rhyme, rhythm, and the fundamental building blocks of poetry in a structured step by step guide.
