Employer:MailOnline

Studied:BA (Hons) Sports Journalism

Tell us a little about your career so far.

I’m an assistant sports editor at MailOnline. I’ve been at the company properly since February 2014, so just three months after graduating.

What’s a typical working day?

I manage a team of journalists and I am in charge of the website. So, I make editorial decisions such as choosing where stories go on the site and changing headlines, working with other departments over stories (news desk for example), changing copy and liaising with reporters who are conducting interviews at matches.

My first football match from a journalist capacity was such a great experience. I reported on a 16 year old Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as one to watch, who later on became an England international.

What’s your career highlight so far?

At MailOnline I have been blessed to have had many career highlights. Three things what would stand out there would be:

  1. Conducting Jofra Archer’s first-ever interview. It took place at Lord’s and it was ahead of the 2019 Cricket World Cup, which he went on to win a month or so later.
  2. Flying to America in 2017 for five days with the NBA to cover Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers ahead of their game in London in January. My interviews included Joel Embiid and Kyrie Irving. I got to watch three games out there and it also coincided with my birthday.
  3. In 2015, I went to Malta to cover West Ham in the Europa League. I went for three days and covered their pre-game press conference, match and post-match analysis.
