What is TEF?
The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), run by the Office for Students (OfS), is a national review programme designed to make sure universities and colleges provide students with excellent teaching, a great learning experience, and successful outcomes when they graduate.
Unis are rated by a panel of independent academic experts and student representatives, highlight outstanding undergraduate teaching and student outcomes so that prospective students have all the information they need to select the right course and the right uni for them.
That’s why we’re delighted to have been awarded Gold for every aspect of the latest TEF, recognising that our student experience and student outcomes are typically outstanding. The ratings show we provide a great experience and successful results for our students, across all our undergraduate courses and subjects.

Why we were awarded gold
The TEF panel praised Solent's student submission, which was put together with the support of the University's Students' Union. It described our students as 'devoted, curious and aspiring individuals with the goal of changing their lives through advanced opportunities and experiences’.
The TEF panel that reviewed Solent highlighted three main achievements in the University’s provision:
- Outstanding teaching, feedback and assessment practices that are highly effective and tailored to supporting students’ learning, progression, and attainment.
- Course content and delivery that inspires students to actively engage in and commit to their learning, and stretches students to develop knowledge and skills to their fullest potential.
- Ensuring a supportive learning environment that gives students access to a wide and readily available range of outstanding quality academic support tailored to their needs.
