Going out guide

We’ve all got our own idea of what makes for a fun day or night out. If you’re into eating your way around the world, Southampton is a proper feast for foodies.

Big American burgers, artisan pizza, traditional Thai, umami Japanese, vegan takeout – plus the reliable chains you love – all sit in the city centre.

If sport is your thing, then we're home to Premier League football, a range of sailing and watersports, rock climbing and even some world-class cricket. And if you fancy a bit of mini golf, then there's one right across the road from campus!

If you're looking to chill, Southampton's got masses of green space scattered all across the city - including right on Solent's doorstep. Perfect for a stroll, a jog, a kickabout – or just sitting and chatting with your mates. We're also just a short train journey from the gorgeous New Forest national park, where you'll find a range of scenic walks, cycling routes, country pubs and herds of iconic ponies (plus the odd donkey) wandering about.

If it’s a night out, there are (at least!) three distinct hotspots within walking distance of Solent's main campus - perfect for late-night plans with pals, whether you're looking for upmarket eats, classic club nights or a taste of the alternative.

Prefer something more chilled? An indie boardgame cafe, waterfront cinema, old-school arcade or semi-secret bar with magical cocktails might be more for you.

Most importantly, Southampton is budget-friendly, which is great when you’re a student.
