For level 3 students with an interest in studying Music Business and related disciplines.

As the live music and music festival industries return after the Covid pandemic, so attention shifts to their impacts on the environment, and how and why festivals and tours should be more sustainable in the future.

In this session, from 3.35 to 4.20pm, Dr Chris Anderton will look at the growth of the live music sector, the relationship between music and environmentalism, and consider the various parts of the business that need to address environmental concerns.

With examples drawn from Glastonbury Festival, The 1975, Coldplay and Massive Attack, we will examine why music events are so important for climate activism and consider the various strategies available to ensure that events meet the Triple Bottom Line of people, planet and profit.

What can organisers, bands, and audiences do, and how effective can they be?
