For the second year running, students at Southampton Solent University are living in one of the country's top ten 'Best Student Cities' according to StudentCrowd's 2024 league table.
Out of 70 cities in the UK, Southampton has been ranked number 8 according to student reviews of cost of living, eating out, nightlife, shopping and public transport.
Based on thousands of independent reviews submitted by students over the last 12 months, the Best Student Cities results reveal that the Solent community are enjoying Southampton’s strong student community, coastal charm, and excellent academic environment.
Merle Girling, an international student from Germany who is studying BSc (Hons) Computer Science at Solent University, says, “I really like the city of Southampton because of the lovely parks. The atmosphere in the city is great, and the people tend to be very friendly.”
To make it into the top ten for a second-year running confirms that Southampton is a great city to live in for study, lifestyle and affordability – meeting the needs of young people today.
Professor Sarah Jones, Pro Vice-Chancellor Education, says:
“For a University that proudly sits at the very heart of the city, it is fantastic to see Southampton continue to rank highly in the Best Student Cities poll. While living costs continue to be a major consideration for young people, when deciding on where to study, this result affirms that as well as being an attractive and exciting place to live, Southampton is also an affordable option.”
StudentCrowd is the number one reviews platform for students, and the award is based on thousands of ratings from real university students across the UK, sharing their experiences and insights about student life in their cities.
