University and Unity 101 Community Radio nominated for national award

Solent University, Southampton’s longstanding partnership with Unity 101 Community Radio has been shortlisted for the National Education Opportunities Network (NEON) Widening Access Partnership Award.

The award recognises organisations that have effectively worked together and supported each other to effectively widen access to higher education.

Solent University and Unity 101 Radio have worked together on a series of mutually beneficial projects focussed on widening access to higher education for the local community.

Of the nomination Richard Thomas Access and Widening Participation Manager at Solent University says: “NEON is an organisation which recognises best practice and innovation in Widening Participation, we are therefore delighted that our enduring partnership with Unity 101 has been nominated for this award. Our regular radio show gives us a voice within the local community where we discuss important issues including mental health, supporting young people and accessing higher education. The partnership also supports our student community via work experience placements with the station.”

The awards will take place in London on Wednesday 11 May 2022.
