'I haven't looked back since' - Clearing student calls on others to pursue their plan B

Every August, thousands of people eagerly await their A level results. Solent, a TEF Gold University in the heart of Southampton, knows that those envelopes sometimes deliver unexpected results. And that's why they are on hand, via the Clearing hotline and online, to support prospective students on their path to university. 

While Clearing might not be plan A, it's an excellent plan B. No one knows this better than Will Hewlett, who applied to Solent through Clearing and has since gone on to thrive, including a trip across the pond to cover the world's biggest golf tournament.

Here, in his own words, Will shares his journey to inspire the next generation of university students carving out their own.

"I didn't really have an idea that I wanted to go to university. I had a thought that I might want to go after a couple of years off, so I had a browse through the Solent website, and I saw my course, Sports Journalism, which I'm doing now.

"The process of Clearing was very well laid-out and it made it a really smooth process for me. Mine was a late entry, and the Clearing team were helpful with how they supported me, how the process goes, and what I needed to do at what time. They were really helpful, and I would highly recommend them.

"The reason I chose this course is because I just love sport. It's a creative course, with a hands-on approach, and all the modules are really fun and practical. Not every day is the same, there is always something different going on, and the lecturers are really impactful. They have great experience in the industry, so they can really give you real insights into what it's going to be like when you graduate. The equipment and production here is just top-notch, too. It really is industry standard, so it's a really fun course.
