As signatories of the pledge, which was created by the British Universities' International Liaison Association (BUILA) following consultation with government and sector stakeholders, Solent will empower student choice and enable informed decision making; ensure good agent governance and professionalism; promote ethical agent practices, professional knowledge and competency; and increase transparency and accountability.

This pledge supports universities in maintaining the UK's position as a go-to place of study for students both at home and abroad who wish to enter higher education in England. Solent joins 60 other universities who have signed the pledge, which launched in December 2023 in a partnership between BUILA, Universities UK International (UUKi), UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) and the British Council.

Solent's pledge to the UK Agent Quality Framework signifies the high standard of the third-party recruitment agencies it works with, reassuring prospective students that they will receive the very best care and support on their journey to university. Vice-Chancellor, Professor James Knowles, says:

"Solent's student community reflects the rich cultural diversity in Southampton and across the country. Each year we welcome thousands of students with unique and individual experiences that shape this community, and it is our duty to ensure the decisions they make before arriving are fully informed and guided.

"This framework promotes best practice and quality assurance which are key elements in student recruitment. The pledge underpins our values as a University for all, championing inclusion and equality across everything that we do."
