Dr Abdulla Tahhan is a lecturer in cadet education with extensive research and teaching experience in higher and further education. Prior to joining Solent University in September 2021, Abdulla worked at the University of Sussex, West Herts College and Brunel University.
Abdulla holds a BSc (2008) in Mechanical Engineering from Tishreen University, MSc (2010) in Mechanical Engineering Design and PhD in Energy research (2017) from Brunel University.
In recognition of his service to research in sustainability solutions and STEM education, he has been awarded fellowships of European Energy Centre (EEC), and Society (FBIS), and Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) respectively.
Abdulla has extensive teaching experience in the UK spanning more than nine years at various levels, including foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate. He has taught a wide variety of modules including Design and Prototyping, Materials Engineering and Manufacturing Processes, Computer Aided Design, Technical Drawings, Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Renewable Energy Conversions.
Abdulla's teaching philosophy focuses on experiential learning and learning by doing; his teaching blends a research led approach with 'real-life' problem-solving. His students particularly enjoy his highly interactive teaching style and they have nominated him for multiple teaching awards over the years.
