Biography
Bacha is a senior lecturer in computing (AI and data science) in the Department of Science and Engineering. He joined Solent University in June 2023. He is the module leader of Applied AI in Business taught in the MSc Applied AI and Data Science course. Prior to joining Solent University, he was an assistant professor and chairperson at the Department of Computer Science, Namal University, Pakistan.
Bacha completed his PhD in Computer Science from the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Brunei in 2019. His thesis title was “Multimodal Emotions Perception for Real-time Systems”. He has published several high-quality publications in reputed and peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He has received UBD FIC-19 research grant worth USD 30k, during his PhD. His Facial Expression Recognition System got recognition in “Expression Challenge” at FG-2020 Competition: Affective Behavior Analysis in-the-wild (ABAW). He also received Best Paper Award at 2nd ICISPC conference (20-22 July 2018), KL, Malaysia.
Bacha is a researcher, equipped with the core skills and experience in both academia and industry in the field of data science, computer vision, machine learning and HRI, which is essential to thrive in the modern post-industrial revolution. His teaching and research experience at numerous prestigious institutes, including GIKI (Pakistan), UBD (Brunei), Namal Uni (Pakistan), and Solent University (UK) strengthen his skills in a diverse environment. As a teacher, he has developed curriculum for several courses including datamining, computer vision, data analysis and visualization, information retrieval, ESS, QCR and PPSD. His research direction focuses on designing and implementing novel ML models for application to be used in domains such as HRI, call centres, machine perception, mental health patient analysis, security surveillance, and affect-aware video games.

Bacha has vast FinTech experience to develop algorithmic trading software for various financial markets including stock, forex and cryptocurrencies. He not only developed numerous algorithmic trading software during his career, but also helped students in creating new startups. Apart from this, he believes in a strong academia and industry collaborations for mutually beneficial software projects involving research novelties and business start-up potentials. He always actively seeks and involved in such collaborations.
