Biography

Chris has a background of working within human resources in various industries, and managing gyms and health and fitness centres. While working in health and fitness, Chris became increasingly interested in the wider factors and systems that influence the health of whole communities and populations.

In 2009 Chris set up an innovative and multidisciplinary health promotion unit at Solent University. Solent Health helped the staff and student community to take more control over and improve their health by creating supportive environments for health at the University. Solent Health’s work was recognised nationally, winning the 2014, 2015 and 2016 awards for Workplace Wellbeing from ukactive and being awarded shortlisted status for the BUPA Employee Wellbeing award from Business in the Community (BITC), as well as being shortlisted for the Royal Society for Public Health workplace wellbeing award. From 2015 Chris began to move increasingly into teaching public health at the University.

Chris holds a degree in psychology from the University of Southampton, a Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel and Development and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from Solent University. He also holds an MSc in Health Promotion and Health Improvement from Robert Gordon University. Chris is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Royal Society for Public Health, and is currently working towards his UK Public Health Practitioner registration.
