Hristos has a broad experience in ship accident prevention, security, and cybersecurity. Some of his top qualifications are a PhD, a postgraduate degree and STCW II/2 licence. Furthermore, he qualifies as a dry cargo and marine engineer surveyor. Other certifications he holds include Safety, Quality & Navigation Lead Auditor, and Vetting of Bulk Carriers. Recently, he has been certified as Ethical Hacker by EC Council.
Obtaining his PhD from LJMU, was the starting point for his research activity. The result is the publication of several research papers in reputable scientific journals. He also has participated as a peer-reviewer of more than 60 papers in 20 academic journals. Notable books he wrote are Risk Analysis of Ship Operations: Research and Case Studies of Shipboard Accidents and The Management of Maritime Regulations.
After several years of sea service onboard dry bulk carriers, cement carriers, AHTS and Greek Navy ships, in 2004, Hristos transitioned to a ship management career path. In particular, he worked for 14 years as quality manager, ship operator, DPA, CSO and navigation auditor. In these positions, he had the opportunity to participate in several ship accident investigations, including shipboard fires, collisions, groundings, salvage operations, security and cybersecurity accidents.
