James Wright

Biography

James is a senior lecturer in sport science and performance. He graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2004 with a BSc (Hons) in Sports Science. Following graduation, he briefly worked as a cardiac technician at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, before joining the University of Southampton as a sports science technician. During his time at Southampton University, James completed a part-time MSc in Sports Performance (2008). In 2010, James joined the University of Winchester as a sport science technician and teaching assistant. In 2013, James completed a PGCL&T in HE and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

James moved to Solent University in 2014 as a technician instructor and, as the BASES laboratory director, was responsible for the day-to-day running of the sports science laboratories. In 2018, he joined the academic team as a senior lecturer in sport science and performance and primarily teaches sport and exercise physiology. In 2019, James completed his PhD, which investigated the reliability and validity of a novel all-out cycling testing protocol to estimate critical power.

At the BASES Annual Conference (2018), James won the Routledge Recently Qualified Researcher Free Communication Award.

James is a BASES-accredited sport and exercise scientist and has experience of providing sports science support to amateur and professional athletes/teams. He also works closely with BASES to deliver the supervised experience entry workshop, in addition to the combined supervisor/reviewer workshop.
