Biography

John Meech is a Senior Lecturer in Architectural Design and Technology in the Department of Science and Engineering at Solent University. He has over 35 years’ experience of working in the construction Industry with the first 15 years working as a Shopfitter/ Joiner learning the practical side of construction and the last 25 years working in Architectural practices, designing and detailing all aspects of building, working his way up to Associate in his last 2 practices. His practical experience has benefitted him in providing practical solutions to complex details. John teaches across all of the Architectural courses from HNC to MSc and on all modules from design to detailing and site investigations to contract administration. He is passionate about detailing and the presentation of the details, and his research interests are in the new methods of building construction especially in a sustainable way.John earned a BA (Hons) in Architectural Design and Technology from Solent University through studying part-time concurrently with working in the industry. He is also earned a master’s in Architectural professional practice.  He is a Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (MCIAT).Before joining Solent as a full-time lecturer, he worked at multiple architectural practices in Hampshire as an Architectural Technologist. During this time, he worked on various types of projects from conception through to completion including acting as the contract administrator on many projects.  The projects varied in complexity, size and sector, ranging from small house extensions to multi-million-pound commercial buildings i.e. GP surgeries and leisure centres. He now uses this experience to bring on the next generation of Architectural Technologists.
