Dr Kieron Hatton is a registered social worker and has worked in the statutory and voluntary sectors before becoming an academic. During his academic career he worked predominantly at the University of Portsmouth as a principal lecturer. During this time Kieron was head/subject lead for social work for nine years and course lead for a number of programmes including the MSc Social Work and a Master's in European Social Work, as well as acting as module lead on a large number of units.
Kieron has extensive experience of research supervision, including supervising nine PhD students to completion. He has acted as an external examiner at a wide range of universities and guided the Portsmouth programmes through a range of curriculum development and validation events.
He is research active and is currently engaged in research around the impact of Covid-19 on social work students with colleagues in Solent. He has published extensively and regularly presented at national and international conferences around a diverse range of issues ranging from mental health to school excluded young people and social pedagogy.
Kieron is a member of the Editorial Boards of the International Journal of Social Pedagogy, Social Work Educational and the Journal of Sociological Thought, an online journal.
Kieron is a registered social worker and has worked in the statutory and voluntary sectors, as well as in academia.
