Lisa Binney, Senior Lecturer

Biography

In September 2012 Lisa took on the role of senior lecturer in sport policy and strategic sports development at Solent University and she is now using her experience in the field to help educate future industry practitioners. Sport has always been an integral part of her life as she has competed and coached at county, regional and national level in both swimming and basketball. From an early age Lisa knew she wanted to teach and subsequently trained as a secondary PE teacher at Exeter University. Following achieving a First Class Joint Honours degree she immediately took on the role of a full time PE teacher, progressing to subject leader and head of department.

Lisa has always held a keen interest in ‘policy’ and its impact on PE and sports development at both grassroots and elite level. Hence following the introduction of the government funded School Sport Partnership programme in 2003, she took a leap of faith and left the world of teaching in order to work within the industry as a partnership development manager. Additionally, in 2011 she undertook a twelve month practice-based research project involving a period of time in Africa researching ‘The Power of Sport’ within disadvantaged communities, and in the USA researching their Olympic and Paralympic legacy.
