Dr Marianne Damoiseau, Lecturer

Biography

Marianne has a PhD in Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths, University of London. Her thesis was titled £5 for the Record and £7 for the T-Shirt: Music Merchandising, Fashion, and the Rise of Sign Value. It investigated the phenomenon of band t-shirts becoming fashion items, and the consequences of this evolution. Marianne’s research is focused on understanding the motives behind consumption and the role of marketing and its influence on young people.

She is interested in popular culture and high-street fashion and by the semiotic aspects of clothing, as well as the topics of identity and fandom.

Marianne taught for a year at the University of Texas in Austin, and was an associate lecturer at Solent for a year before becoming a full-time lecturer in 2015.
