Biography

In South Africa, from 1996 to 1999, Marietjie worked as a generic social worker. In 2000 she moved to the United Kingdom and initially worked in children and families, before moving to work in adult services in 2001.

Since moving to Southampton in 2002, Marietjie has been involved with student work based supervision and qualified as a practice teacher in 2007. Between 2008 and 2010 she taught freelance for Southampton University, and since 2011, she has worked as an associate lecturer for Solent University. In 2015, Marietjie was appointed to the position of senior lecturer.

Marietjie's other interests include being an independent assessor on the assessed and supported year in employment for newly qualified social workers, and for a period of three years running the training programme at Southampton CCG for continuing healthcare. She is also an external examiner for the University of Northampton and the University of Wolverhampton.

Further information

Marietjie qualified as a social worker in South Africa in 1995 and subsequently practiced for four years as a generic social worker in South Africa. After obtaining a master's in social work, she moved to the UK in 2000.

During her first year in the UK she worked as a social worker in a children and families team. For the next seven years, she worked in various teams within adult social services, and then for NHS Continuing Healthcare until 2014.
