Biography

Matt Swan is a lecturer in architectural design and technology in the Department of Science and Engineering at Solent University. He has over 10 years' practical experience within the architecture and construction industry, working on a multitude of projects across various stages and sectors.

Matt teaches across architectural design modules at Solent, alongside teaching the technical aspect of construction due to his industry experience as an architectural technologist. Some of his research interests include sustainable design and materials, refurbishment, and conservation and heritage architecture.

Matt earned a BA (Hons) in Architectural Design and Technology from Solent University through studying part-time concurrently with working in the industry. He is also an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) and is currently in the process of gaining full membership (MCIAT).

Prior to joining Solent in a teaching capacity, he worked at multiple architectural practices in Hampshire as an architectural technologist. During this time, he worked on various types of projects from conception through to completion, with these varying in complexity, size and sector, ranging from small house extensions to residential new-builds and multi-million-pound commercial refurbishments. Matt has been an advocate of introducing sustainable practices and methods within his previous roles, something he now implements into his teaching at Solent.
