Biography

Captain Mehrdad Behforouzi is a professional Master Mariner with 15 years of command on board different ocean-going vessels.

He is an expert in simulator operation and creating scenarios, maritime law, collision regulations, chart work, navigational aids, and conducting proficiency courses for pilots.

Mehrdad's previous industry experiences includes: CEO of the business unit (ship); management of navigation; cargo operations (led a team of multi-national officers and crew members in conducting vessel operations safely, efficiently, and effectively); safety and security of the crew, ship, and protection of environment; ship handling; maintenance of the vessel; accounting; public relations; administration and HR; and insurance.

Mehrdad has 12 years of intermittent teaching in various government and private nautical institutes. He has eight years of teaching experience in the International Maritime College of Oman (National University).

Mehrdad's experience lies in university teaching; knowledge of and operating bridge, GMDSS and ECDIS simulators; creating different simulation scenarios for students and pilots; simulator training; RADARARPA operational and management courses; conducting and creating scenarios for pilot proficiency courses; coordinating with Wartsila for new updates and maintenance of the bridge simulator; ECDIS and GMDSS courses; developing training resources and course materials; designing modules and lesson plans; academic advising; supervising and assisting students in preparing graduation projects (thesis); research and publishing papers; peer reviewing manuscripts; e-learning (familiar with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Loom and Moodle); conducting pilot proficiency training courses for pilots in the Sultanate of Oman; and conducting tutorials and seminars.
