BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science
Biomedical scientists are at the forefront of diagnosing and treating diseases. Our biomedical science degree will give you the lab and research skills to help drive modern medicine.
Mitra received a BSc Biomedical Engineering from the Sahand University of Technology, Tabriz, Iran, in 2019, and an MSc Biomedical Engineering from Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran, Iran, in 2021. She is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Warwick, where she has established collaborations with various biopharmaceutical companies to advance her research in mathematical modelling of biological systems. Her work focuses particularly on porous media modelling, such as spheroid and organoid structures commonly used in organ-on-chip technology.
In 2025, Mitra joined Southampton Solent University as associate lecturer in pharmacology and toxicology. Her research interests span diverse areas of biomedical engineering, including molecular communication, drug delivery systems, and computational biology. In recognition of her academic excellence, she was awarded the prestigious Chancellor's International Scholarship at the University of Warwick.
Mitra established a collaboration with AstraZeneca (Gothenburg, Sweden) during her PhD, where she studied molecular communication mechanisms between homogeneous cell aggregates, with a particular focus on the signalling between pancreatic islets and liver spheroids in organ-on-chip systems.
