Reza Mirmiran is senior lecturer of shipping economics, finance and management and a member of the University's Warsash Maritime School.
Reza joined the Merchant Navy at 18, sailing with IRISL as a navigation officer. He received a scholarship to do a master's degree in international shipping at the University of Plymouth. After graduation he worked in a variety of shore-based shipping roles. On returning to the UK, he received another scholarship to complete his PhD in London Guildhall University. He then commenced his academic career, joining the Greenwich Maritime Institute as an assistant director and London Metropolitan Business School as a senior lecturer. After ten years in academia, He joined Med Kon Lines as a CFO for four years, and then ran his consultancy company for two years before joining Solent University in 2018 as a senior lecturer in maritime economics, finance and management.
Currently, he lectures in supply chain management, logistics, economics of international trade and shipping, global economics, and corporate financial management. His research interests includes economic modelling of freight markets and markets for ships, modern port developments and management, commodity markets, and forecasting.
Reza has published in several academic journals in transport, and economics. He also served on the editorial board of Maritime Policy and Management. He has been in close contact with the industry, acting as an adviser and consultant for several trading and shipping companies and institutions.
Reza has 20 years’ experience in teaching and learning in higher education. He lectures in supply chain management, logistics, economics of international trade and shipping, global economics, ecological economics, digital business and e-commerce, and corporate financial managements. Â
