Russell has been a lecturer in sport psychology (football) at Solent University since September 2018. Before moving to Solent, he was a part-time lecturer in sport and performance psychology at the University of Winchester, where he was awarded fellowship status of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Russell is also a Chartered Scientist (CSci) and BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist.
Russell has nine years’ experience working as a sport and performance psychology consultant and has worked across a range of sports at different levels, from local/amateur to professional. Notably, Russell spent six years working as a sport psychology consultant at Somerset County Cricket Club and two seasons at Bristol City Football Club.
He completed an undergraduate degree in Sports and Exercise Sciences which was followed by a MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Sciences (Psychology) from the University of Gloucestershire. He completed a part-time PhD at the University of Winchester where he used mobile eye-tracking technology to explore decision making and gaze behaviour within cricket.
Russell has nine years’ experience working as a sport and performance psychology consultant and has worked across a range of sports at different levels, from local/amateur to professional. He strives to help individuals, teams, and organisations maximise their performance through the application of contemporary research and knowledge. Russell has worked in numerous sports including cricket, football, basketball, rugby, golf, taekwondo, badminton, tennis and athletics. He has also worked with numerous sporting officials and retired athletes. Specific organisations Russell has worked with include: Somerset County Cricket Club (2012 – 2018), Bristol City Football Club (2009 – 2011), Gloucestershire District Cricket Programme, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), University of Gloucestershire elite sport programme and Global Taekwondo International.
