Sinan Khwandah

Biography

Sinan received a BSc (Hons) degree in Electrical Engineering in 2004, a Diploma degree in Computer and Auto-Control in 2005, an MSc degree in Computer, and Auto Control in 2009 from Damascus University; an MSc in Wireless Communication Systems in 2011 and a PhD from Brunel University London in 2015.

Sinan joined Solent in 2015. Prior to teaching at Solent, he taught in the telecommunications department at Damascus University from 2005 to 2010, working on the public sector automation and networking projects with the technical team of the electronic and computer systems unit at Damascus University.

Sinan’s current role at Solent is lecturer in engineering. This involves the design and delivery planning of learning activities, together with the delivery to students, for a range of lectures and practical sessions. This also includes exam preparation sessions. At Solent, he leads several units and supervises students for final year undergraduate projects. He also took responsibility for delivery of units to the Technology Foundation Programme and taught students with a wide range of skills and abilities.

Sinan is a skilled engineer in existing technologies and fulfilled education and experience requirements to be certified in several areas such as Certified Radio Engineer from Telecoms Academy London and Cisco Systems. Throughout his career, his research has been focused on communication and networks. His latest research is concerned with cellular networks including radio planning and system optimisation, management of heterogeneous networks, MIMO, and network architecture. He has contributed to several international conferences, is involved with improving science writing and editing and is active in peer reviewing high-quality publications for several international publishers such as IEEE and Springer.

He is a member of the IEEE and the IET and is a Fellow of the Academy of Higher Education.

Sinan has worked in different universities since 2005. He has teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of communications and computer networks, radio systems, electronic circuits, automation and control, analogue and digital electronics, signal processing, renewable and solar systems, power storage systems, maths, IT, and technology concepts.
