Dr Whysnianti Basuki

Biography

Dr Whysnianti Basuki is an Associate Professor in Business, and Doctoral Coordinator for Business and Law at Solent University Southampton.

Whysni started teaching at Solent University in 2006 while she was reading her PhD at the University. Whysni’s main teaching areas are management research methods and entrepreneurship. Her other responsibilities at the University are serving as doctoral coordinator for business and law, leading postgraduate dissertation/project module, and supervising postgraduate and doctoral students.

In terms of research, Whysni’s main research interests are located within female entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial intention. Whysni is very passionate in supporting female entrepreneurs to run and grow their business. In her works she seeks to develop understanding of the challenges/barriers that are faced by female entrepreneurs and the tailored supports that they need to run and grow their business. In terms of supporting small businesses, Solent Business School holds Small Business Charter, to which Whysni has contributed towards the achievement and re-accreditation of the Small Business Charter awarded to the School from Chartered Association of Business Schools.

Still in research, Whysni has been involved in research projects that were funded by the European Commission (eg, "How Higher Education Institutions in Europe Deal with the Quality Assurance of their Entrepreneurship Programmes”, “Innovation Network”, and “Evaluation of INTERREG Programme France (Channel) – England. From her research, Whysni has produced conference and journal articles as well as reports.

In terms of reviewing activities, Whysni has reviewed papers for publication for several Entrepreneurship journals and conferences (eg, the Diana Female Entrepreneurship conference and Academy of Management). In addition, she is currently serving as a member of the Editorial Board of two International Journals, a member of the Scientific and Publication Committee of the European University Network on Entrepreneurship, and a Trustee of the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

Whysni is an experienced researcher, obtaining her postgraduate certificate in research methods and PhD from Solent University. Her research interests are entrepreneurship (particularly female entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education) and strategy in small and medium-sized companies. She is currently supervising three PhDs in these areas.
