Zoe McCarthy

Biography

Zoe has worked in the design industry for 20 years’ with expertise spanning digital textile design, fashion design and graphic design. Zoe runs her own design business whilst lecturing on Fashion Graphics and Fashion Media courses at Solent and has a keen interest in sustainability in the fashion industry. Zoe’s ongoing research into creative pedagogies informs teaching practice on campus and in hybrid learning environments. Zoe’s real-world experience feeds directly into teaching practice where contacts from the creative world provide valuable insights to industry and live briefs that are instrumental to the growth of innovative and professional students. Highly skilled in software and print processes, Zoe is able to impart knowledge and skills that enhance the development of experimental and commercial, industry ready graduates.

Zoe has worked for Fashion Brands, Trend Forecasters, Textile Design Studios and Graphic Design Studios. In her own business Zoe provides bespoke illustration, textile and graphic design for business and individuals.

Zoe has worked at Solent since 2016, starting as an Associate Lecturer on the Fashion Buying and Merchandise course before moving to the Fashion Graphics team in 2019 as a Part Time member of the teaching team with module leader and level leader roles.

Zoe has a keen interest in sustainable fashion industry and new, innovative fabric production and print. Zoe is currently researching the effectiveness of teaching creative courses online with the aim to improve practice and student experience in hybrid learning environments.
