Adam joined Southampton Solent University's Board of Governors in October 2024.

Experience

Adam is a chartered accountant, with over 20 years’ experience as a finance director for various train operating companies and 10 years’ experience in practice at Cooper & Lybrand Deloitte. During his time in practice, Adam gained experience in the education sector through managing a number of internal and external audits, including Southampton Institute of Higher Education, Southampton University, Winchester School of Art, and over 20 further education and sixth form colleges. Adam was subsequently appointed as a governor for Havant College.

As finance director, Adam built up in his skills in financial management and control, as well as overseeing delivery of critical IT projects, and leading on contractual changes and regulatory issues. Adam chaired rail industry management groups that oversaw the allocation and settlement of passenger revenues and that oversaw the management of traction energy costs for the industry.

Adam is currently a trustee director of the Railways Pension Scheme, overseeing the management of £33bn of investments and the management of over 100 individual sections. Adam chairs the Integrated Funding Committee that oversees the actuarial valuations for all the sections of the Railway Pension Scheme, as well as overseeing the investment strategies and the impact of financial developments of the employers that support the various sections.

In his spare time, Adam enjoys riding his horse in the New Forest, following horse racing, and spending time in his holiday home in Spain.
