Role at Solent

Professor Sabrina Vieth joined Southampton Solent University in October 2022 as Professor of Learning and Teaching and took on the role of Head of Learning and Teaching in January 2024. In this capacity, she collaborates closely with the Pro-Vice Chancellor Education to shape and implement the university's strategic vision for learning and teaching. Sabrina drives innovation in teaching and assessment practices, ensuring they align with contemporary educational needs while enhancing the student experience through targeted initiatives, such as course annual reviews and NSS action planning.

Sabrina leads the university's professional recognition schemes (Advance HE fellowships) and frequently chairs validation panels for undergraduate and postgraduate courses across diverse disciplines. She is a champion of knowledge-sharing, both within Southampton Solent University and in the wider academic community, fostering excellence through collaboration and dialogue. As the institutional lead for the annual Solent Learning, Teaching, and Research Conference, she curates a platform for inspiration and critical discussion on cutting-edge issues in higher education.

Experience

With a wealth of leadership experience in higher education, Sabrina has a proven track record of driving meaningful change and innovation. Before joining Southampton Solent University, she was a Principal Lecturer and Head of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Coventry University London. In this role, she successfully led academic teams, introduced interventions that elevated student satisfaction and course outcomes, and oversaw transformative initiatives such as research ethics compliance and professional accreditation reviews.

Sabrina has also made her mark as an external examiner and assessor for professional fellowship applications, contributing to the broader quality assurance landscape in academia. She is a seasoned facilitator of staff development, offering workshops on modern pedagogical approaches and providing expert guidance in quality assurance and validation processes.

Education and memberships

Sabrina holds a Diploma in Intercultural Management from the University of Jena and a PhD in Management from the University of Passau, complemented by a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from Coventry University. Her professional accolades include Senior Fellowship of Advance HE and membership in the Heads of Educational Development Group (HEDG).
