Living independently can be a big responsibility. Whether you're living in University student residences or are renting in the private sector, it is important that you understand all the terms and conditions that may be associated with your residency.
Residence fees
Rooms in the student residences vary in price depending on which residence you are staying at, how big your room is and how long you are staying there for.
Cancellations
When an offer of accommodation is accepted, either online with an electronic signature, or by signing a paper copy of the Residence Agreement, a legal contract is formed and all parties are bound by its terms for the full duration of the contracted period.
However, we understand that sometimes circumstances change. Prior to taking up residence in the accommodation, applicants who do not, or are unable to, take up their studies may request to terminate the contract in writing to the Accommodation Team.
Once the contract start date has passed and the student has taken up residence, no request to terminate the contract will be considered, with the exception of those citing exceptional circumstances, which have a detrimental effect on the resident's ability to reside within the accommodation. All such requests must be accompanied by supporting evidence.
Further information is available in the terms of residency
To cancel or request termination of contract please contact the Accommodation Team in writing to accommodation@solent.ac.uk.
Student Accommodation Code
Our residences fully comply with the Student Accommodation Code, a code of practice that sets standards and best practice for the management and quality of student housing.
LGBTQ+ accommodation
We believe everyone deserves to feel secure and respected in their own homes. That includes having the choice of LGBTQ+ accommodation. We aim to ensure all University accommodation is a safe, welcoming and inclusive place for everyone. Some students find it helpful to be living in accommodation specifically for LGBTQ+ students along with people who may have shared life experiences. We offer students the option of selecting LGBTQ+ accommodation as a preference.
