What happens next?

Here, we look at each stage of the accommodation process, from initial application right through to the day you actually move into your new home.

1. Application

Complete an online application as soon as possible to secure your place in the student residences.

2. Room allocation

Rooms will be allocated from April and you will be informed of the allocation from May/June onwards - this date is subject to change. If you are still holding a conditional study offer when the room offer is given, it is on the assumption you will achieve the exam results you require to study with us. Please see our allocation policy for more information.

3. View your accommodation offer

We'll then email you a link to our online booking system to view your offer of accommodation.

4. Secure your accommodation

To accept your offer of accommodation you'll need to choose a payment plan and make an advance rent payment by credit or debit card.

  • £150 for UK applicants
  • £1,000 for applicants from outside of the UK, if accepting before 31 August,
  • Full payment for overseas applicants, if accepting after 31 August.
  • £150 for second- and third-year students.

This advance rent payment is not a deposit and will be taken off your overall accommodation fees for the year.

If you've requested a car parking space you will receive a separate parking offer. To accept this offer you will need to make full payment for the full contract period. Typically, car parking offers are sent to applicants in August.

5. Your accommodation contract

Once you have accepted your room offer and made the advanced rent payment you will able to view and print your formal contract for your records.

6. No longer coming to Solent?

If after accepting your room you find you are no longer going to be joining us, please contact accommodation@solent.ac.uk as soon as possible so we can advise you of the cancellation process.

7. Complete your online induction

A couple of weeks before you are due to start with us you will be invited to complete the accommodation online induction.

This short activity is designed to give you all the essential information that you will need before you move into University accommodation. You will also be able to book your arrival date and time, access your key collection documents, and get directions to your student residence.

8. Arrival

On the day you arrive, show your key collection form to the relevant member of staff at the residence and bring photographic proof of identity with you. You will then be given your keys and/or access cards.

If you have been allocated a parking space, you will also need to show your parking permit collection documents to obtain a permit to be displayed in your vehicle and fob access for the car park.

Please note: car parking is unavailable at residences until after move-in week - typically two to five days after the start of your accommodation contract. During this period you will need to make alternative arrangements to park your car.

For more information about settling into your new home, please see our online accommodation induction, moving in guide or contact the Accommodation Team.
