I think biochemistry is an amazing career because you will get to know the cells in your body, your biochemical reactions what is happening inside your body. You get you get to know different diseases how we can..
Lecturer of BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science, Aref Kyyaly is sat in laboratory talking to camera. Upbeat music plays in the background.

diagnose them, how we can cure them. I find it amazing.

The facilities here in the biomedical science laboratories at Solent University really are fantastic.

From day one our students are using exactly the same equipment that biomedical scientists use. For example we have a flow cytometer that the students use to identify different types of cell based on their size and their shape.

We also have spectrophotometers that the students use to analyse the colour of different solutions and from that information they can determine the concentration of specific biomarkers in that solution. Our staff are very professional and they're very motivational and they're very very supportive.

So it's always an open door policy, you've always got that opportunity that if you're struggling, or if you need help, or if you just want to talk - we, our staff, are there - so we pride ourselves on that relationship that we are able to foster with our students.

So you will you will work in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology and biochemistry, also definitely. So you will do different techniques like PCR, electrophoresis how to spread DNA proteins, how to identify different cells.

We also have a dedicated tissue culture laboratory and this includes a incubator where the students grow their cells and a microbiological safety cabinet where the students can practice their aseptic technique. So this is where they perform all their cell work in a totally sterile environment.

We will have guest lectures from different backgrounds the medics and and by technologists and this kind of people. We will have external visits to different labs, big labs and also the students will have the chance to do their own research so, at their final year there'll be research projects so they can they can design their own research.
