Local Student Bursary Scheme
A gift to Solent students is a gift to our local community
Solent’s Local Student Bursary Scheme supports the next generation of students from our local community. It enables students from disadvantaged backgrounds to follow in the footsteps of our alumni and access the University’s first-class facilities, award-winning teaching and workplace-focused, industry-led courses.
Your support will make a real impact
With your support, each year a £1,000 bursary will be awarded to as many students as possible. This bursary will support local students who may not be able to finance their studies and help enrich their experience at university. These students will have a low household income and be from an admissions address of a UK ‘SO’ household postcode, the Isle of Wight and/or from our partner sixth form schools and colleges.
Support local people and our community
As a city-based university, we pride ourselves on promoting and supporting fair access for all. It’s what we believe is fair, and it’s responsible for the lively, diverse, and inclusive environment at Solent.
Our community, and region we serve is home to a diverse economy, with cutting edge industry and global connections. Despite Southampton’s huge economic growth and success, inequality is felt across the city with some neighbourhoods falling within the most deprived nationally. Low educational attainment and subsequent low participation in higher education are amongst contributing factors - together, we have the power to change this.
The gift that will benefit generations
Higher education offers new possibilities to a brighter future, and it can help reduce inequality. We want to support aspiring students from our local community to experience all that Solent has to offer, and shape the future around them.
Through your kind donation you will enable students to gain invaluable skills and knowledge that will prepare them to succeed after graduation. With 40 per cent of Solent University’s alumni remaining in Hampshire after graduation, your support will have a meaningful, lasting impact on our students, as well as our local community for generations to come
