Solent Futures: a careers extravaganza
Today, the Spark building was buzzing with an incredibly well-attended careers fair organised by Solent Futures. There were over 85 employers present and hundreds of students came to find out about placement opportunities and career pathways. There were some extremely useful careers advice stands providing services such as CV checking and photography for LinkedIn profile pictures, as well as several companies that are of particular interest to Media Technology students.
It was great to catch up with graduates Pete Hill and Nicola Parr from Arqiva, along with their talent and development coordinator, Tracy Bevan. Arqiva provide teleport services that move data and media around the globe - they have employed many of our graduates over the years, as well as offering a variety of placements.
We also caught up with graduates Michael Ludgate and Andy Tippets who were representing Evertz with their head of projects, Andy Lambourne. Evertz design broadcast equipment and systems such as IP gateways, media asset management solutions, playout and replay. Like Arqiva, they have and do employ several of our graduates and have been good friends to the programme over the years.
There were several companies that were more subtly related to the programme such as IBM, and the event provided an excellent opportunity for the students to broaden their options and network with some relevant contacts.
Solent Futures is an internal service that provides students and graduates with careers advice and opportunities to develop their employability. They offer a range of one-to-one support services as well as a plethora of information and self-help guides that are incorporated into courses and our online learning platform. Many thanks to Solent Futures and all those who attended – we very much look forward to the next event!
