Semesters

Semester 1, Autumn term

Module catalogue

This catalogue has a number of pathways. It is organised by semesters.

You will follow three modules within one pathway. You will not be able to mix modules between pathways.

Core and optional modules

Some modules will be core modules and must be followed within the pathway. In some cases, you may have optional modules, you will need to pick one - please indicate your preferred choice, on the form.

Module description

A short description is given for all modules. If you require a full descriptor, you will be able to click on the codes for each module and download the pdf.

Credits

Each module is worth 20 CATs (UK version of academic credits) or 10 ECTs.

Delivery mode

All modules will have a mixture of face-to-face and online delivery for an enhanced learning experience. See more information here.

Once you have accepted your offer from Solent University you will be contacted by the mobility office and invited to complete an online form with your choices.

Autumn semester

You must have some previous financial knowledge in order to follow this pathway. If you are unsure, please contact us.

Financial Management BFA536
This module will introduce you to the function, principles, and techniques of financial management. In particular, it will focus on the relationship between companies seeking to raise finance, and the investors who provide that finance.

The UK Financial System BFA524
This module is concerned with the analysis of financial institutions and markets in the UK, which are crucially important for the operation of a successful modern economy.

Taxation Principles BFA522
You will develop a curiosity to understand and critique the impact of this evolving taxation environment. The knowledge gained can be used for a career in practice, industry, or for your own personal tax affairs.

Spring semester

Core modules

Management Accounting BFA520
This module will focus on the accounting concepts and techniques relevant to the provision of management information for planning, control and performance evaluation purposes.

Financial Reporting BFA521
Through this module you will learn the need for regulation over the quality of financial reporting and the regulatory framework within which financial statements are prepared.

Optional modules

Please note: Not all optional modules are guaranteed to run each year. You can pick ONE out of 2 possible options

Audit Principles BFA525
Through this module you will become familiar with the methodologies required through the audit process and learn how to draft an audit report.

Capital Market Trading BFA526
Understand money and the markets in our globalised economy. Explore the language of finance; test and observe diverse investment strategies; and learn how key information can dramatically affect share prices.
