Course overview

Designed by experienced academics who’ve worked across key roles in a wide variety of industries, our Business and Law Foundation Year is designed to build your confidence, develop your capabilities and ensure you’re future-ready and ready for the competitive global marketplace.

From core subjects such as business, law, finance, marketing, enterprise, personal development and projects in the community, you’ll gain a solid introduction to the foundations of business and law, study contemporary business challenges, identify future trends and focus on the areas and industries which matter to you.

And throughout the foundation and subsequent full Solent degree, you’ll do more than learn the theory – you’ll learn to apply it through an innovative range of assessment and ‘real-world’ live briefs. Our degrees offer the chance to engage and get hands-on experience of international business and legal challenges and contexts, as well as a variety of extra qualifications, exemptions and memberships in addition to your honour’s degree.

From enquiry, analysis, evaluation and communication to knowledge of the latest business techniques and innovations, the course offers the complete package of business management skills for a great career – along with an innovative focus on digital technologies and their impact.

From blockchain to diversity, from horizon scanning to global digital solutions, you will study the latest innovations in theory and technology, learn to analyse future trends and identify the impacts on organisations and society – and recommend sustainable and ethical solutions to modern business challenges, applying your new knowledge and skills to real-world problems.

The placement year will allow you to put what what you've learned in your first and second years into practice in the workplace, while gaining valuable real-world work experience before you graduate.

Business management at Solent Business School is ideally suited to students who want to lead, manage and make a difference. You want to add and create value for society the economy and yourself. You may not be sure yet which industry or organisation will suit you. You may work for a social enterprise, charity, government, big local, global business or smaller entrepreneurial firm or start-up. You may even start your own business.
