Hope Laforce

Fashion graduate, Hope Laforce, shares how she created her own fashion brand after being inspired by her final university project.

Job title:Executive Assistant

Employer:THE EDIT LDN

What made you choose to study at Solent and what did you most enjoy about the course?

I thoroughly enjoyed the fashion programme I selected, and the University offered a diverse array of fashion courses. Additionally, I was drawn to the ambience of the campus and the surrounding area. During the open day visit, I instantly felt a connection and knew I would love being there. I enjoyed the creativity of my course, which covered a diverse range of practical and relevant fashion topics. Given my uncertainty about the specific field of fashion I wanted to pursue, studying fashion and promotion provided exposure to various areas like fashion buying and fashion marketing. This exploration equipped me with valuable insights for my future career steps.

How did your course at Solent prepare you for a career in your chosen industry?

As mentioned, my fashion degree, with a focus on buying, paved the way for a career in fashion buying. I gained experience as a Fashion Admin Assistant at ASOS and New Look. Moreover, my final university project involved creating a fashion brand, and the inspiration from that project led me to launch the brand five years later.

What is your current role and what do you find most enjoyable about your work?

I am currently an executive assistant for a luxury fashion marketplace, and I thoroughly enjoy the role for its valuable business insights that I can apply to my own brand. This position also provides a good balance, allowing me to focus on my personal brand development.

What has been your biggest professional achievement to date?

Launching Sunny Lemons the Label. I have always wanted my own clothing brand and I finally felt confident enough to do it.

What advice would you give someone thinking of studying at Solent?

Best decision I have ever made. You will make friends for life and the uni experience teaches you a lot about yourself.
