Taking inspiration from brands and artists that are paving the way in the digital side, Jose explored Asian streetwear, industrial design and utility wear.
Jose, can you tell us a bit about your final project?
Bostani is a digital fashion brand that was born from the idea of linking the real and the digital worlds. I want to build a connection between traditional and digital fashion, bringing trends in the real world into digital. On my project, I developed the branding of the project, a digital fashion collection, and a promotion strategy which includes different outcomes like videos, social media content, a lookbook, a website and posters.
Â
What was the inspiration behind your project?
Bostani’s sources of inspiration are wide. I wanted to mix things and aesthetics that I like. I took inspiration from brands and artists that are paving the way in the digital side, such as RTFKT, Auroboros, or Stephy Fung, but also from traditional fashion like Heron Preston, Kith, Aime León Dore or A-COLD-Wall, amongst others. I also see the inspiration coming from Asian streetwear, industrial design and utility wear.
What have you enjoyed most about your time at Solent?
I think I enjoyed my third year the most. After coming back from second year at home because of the pandemic, it was time to enjoy as much as I could a did it. I saw how everything I had learned during the first and second years was starting to be useful. I also started to refine my style and how I like to do this and on third year I used everything to create what I wanted. It was very fun, challenging and stimulating.
What’s next for you? Tell us a bit about any work/experience/internships you have
lined up.
My next step is to move to London and start working in the fashion industry. I got a role as a menswear designer intern and I will be learning as much as possible to have a permanent role in this company.
Please share any advice you have for other students or potential students?
Do as much as possible. At the end of the course, you should have a strong portfolio to show. My advice is not doing only the assessment projects but also make personal projects to practice and practice. That’s how you can learn skills and you can build a strong portfolio. You need to invest time on this and of course, enjoy the process and fall in love with what you do.
