Final year BA (Hons) Beauty Promotion student, Sally Ellin, from Jakarta (Indonesia), shares her final major project ‘Serein Beaute’. An inhalable beauty brand with fragrances that improve skin problems.
For my final major project, I created a brand to promote the use of inhalable beauty. In short, inhalable beauty is a type of wellness fragrance that uses the stress-relieving and digestion benefits to improve skin problems.
With this project, I created Serein Beaute, with a wellness fragrance collection named Soul Scents. The inspiration behind each Soul Scent was taken from the relaxing moments of life, whether it was going on a vacation to the sea or staying at home.
I was inspired by psychodermatology, which is the study between the mind and the skin. Although parts of psychodermatology are often seen in real life, it is not well-known. As someone who gets breakouts when stressed, my regular skincare did not always help with my acne. Therefore, instead of creating a regular skincare brand, I researched into the roots of skin problems and found that wellness scents can be used to improve mental health, and that by using the mind, we can improve our skin.
I enjoyed the projects that we were asked to complete, because they can be used for our portfolio and CVs. Everything I’ve done in my time at Solent helped me develop my portfolio for my future career and helped me find what I want to do the most.
I also enjoyed the technical classes as I was very unfamiliar with photography and Adobe apps prior to my time at university.
I am going back to my home country as I feel most comfortable there, and I will be applying for marketing and/or product development roles in the beauty business. I want to work for local brands and help them grow and gain recognition outside of Indonesia.
