Solent University was thrilled to welcome students from local colleges and sixth forms recently, for a taster of what it’s like to be a student on a range of media courses.
80 students from 10 colleges attended from areas including London, Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey, and had the opportunity to attend a variety of themed taster sessions throughout the day, including pirate radio challenges, e-sports live streams, preparing and shooting a film scene and an anatomy in animation session.
Roy Hanney, Course Leader for Media Production said of the event, "The idea for the day was to do something fun, active and creative that would be meaningful for the young people taking part. We also wanted to get our students involved with teaching the workshops. I think it worked really well and was a great opportunity for the young people to interact directly with existing students".
Event organisers Sophia Basi and John Wilson from Solent said: “It was wonderful collaborating so closely with colleagues across the University to create an event that truly showcased what Solent can offer. We very much hope the students who came take that next step and consider applying to Solent if they have not already.”
Students who attended the event said:
“I found this event helpful as it gave me insight on what I might want to take as a career and for a degree when I leave college”
“Today was a good opportunity to try cool, new things and meet people who share the same interests within media”
Solent is also offering a range of webinars about higher education, find out more here.
