Generating growth and opportunity

Universities UK has today (Tuesday 25 October) published a new report highlighting how universities can contribute to the country’s economic growth.

The report makes recommendations such as building collaborative hubs to create opportunities for local people and expanding University Enterprise Zones to more institutions.

More than 18 months ago, Solent University started on a journey to develop a University-wide approach to building stronger impact-driven business partnerships.

Despite challenging external environments, we have maintained and continue to build stronger relationships with the regional business community.

Key successes include:

• Establishment of Business Advisory Boards within our Solent Business School; Faculty of Creative Industries, Architecture and Engineering; and Warsash Maritime School.
• Delivery of the Government’s Help to Grow: Management Programme, enabling senior business leaders to develop strategic growth plans.
• Celebrating the success of our alumni and business communities through the inaugural Solent Business and Alumni Awards.
• Re-establishment of our in-person event programme including the Solent Futures Work, World and Future Ready careers fair; Time to Shine; and Business South annual conference.
